Rio de Janeiro Chosen for 2016 Summer Olympics

The International Olympic Committee decided yesterday that Rio de Janeiro will host the 2016 Summer Olympics. Rio beat out Madrid, Tokyo and Chicago, making it the first country in South American to ever host the Olympic Games.

President Obama put in a bid for Chicago to host the 2016 Summer Olympics, as well as the Paralympic Games. He hoped that by hosting the Olympic Games in the United States, it will bring the world together and give everyone more hope.

Unfortunately, Chicago was one of the first locations to be eliminated.

The Olympics Games will cost Rio de Janeiro an estimated $14 billion. The Olympic Village alone will cost around $427 million. There is also a question of safety, because there is an extremely high homicide rate, and very few places for Olympic guests to stay.  Hopefully, this won't be a problem.
