Redskins Fall to the Eagles

It was like Christmas morning waking up and turning on the Redskins game. It was about 1:07pm, and the Skins were up 7-3 against the Eagles in Philly. They scored on the opening drive, and it seemed too good to be true. Obviously, it was.

The Redskins’ performance was particularly impressive due to the fact that Albert Haynesworth, DeAngelo Hall, Clinton Portis and Chris Cooley were out with injuries.

The Skins led the Eagles 24-16 in the third quarter, successfully converting 8 out of 13 third downs. But for some reason, they also seem to fall apart in the fourth quarter.

The Eagles were then able to score 11 points, including a touchdown, then a two point conversion. They won the game with a field goal, beating the Skins 27-24.

The Skins will play the undefeated Saints next week at 1 pm.

Chris Cooley Broken Ankle; Out for Majority of Season

Chris Cooley walked onto the field on Monday’s game and the first thing everyone noticed was his crazy blonde hair. That wasn’t the only thing that attracted attention to him. During the Redskins-Eagles game, the Skins’ tight end broke his right ankle. The damage is so severe that he could be out for the rest of the season.

Not long into the second quarter, Cooley couldn’t make up his mind whether to go right or left. His indecisiveness led to a broken ankle. He was able to complete two passes before limping off the field to get checked out.

Prior to his injury, Cooley had caught 27 catches for 311 yards, and scored two touchdowns (which doesn’t seem like a lot, but given the Redskins’ record…). Cooley has never missed a game since he started playing in 2004, so let’s hope the Redskins will be okay without him… for now.

The Skins lost the game 27-17.

NFL Goes Pink

Millions of people turned in to one of the many NFL games today and were surprised to see some of their favorite players wearing pink articles of clothing, such as gloves, patches, decals on their helmets and cleats. On top of that, all of the players, staff and even the referees were wearing pink armbands.

Redskins’ owner Daniel Snyder’s wife, Tanya, was diagnosed with breast cancer a year ago. She is now in remission, and just recently became the spokesperson for the NFL, especially when it comes to the “Crucial Catch” campaign. Redskins’ tight end Chris Cooley talked about his mother’s fight with breast cancer; she is now in remission as well.

This is all part of the NFL’s “Crucial Catch”, to help support the fight against breast cancer.

All of the pink items the players wore during the game will be auctioned off, the proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society.
